I absolutely love this thing. The battery life is excellent, the miles I get out of a charge is awesome, the features (like cruise control) are great! The app SUCKS A WALNUT. I was able to use the app exactly once to set up the scoot and track my first ride + set up cruise control and other settings. After that I logged out and HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOG BACK IN BECAUSE OF “INTERNET CONNECTION ISSUES”. Fix the app and this is easily a 5-star scooter.The torque on this this is great. Going up hills is no struggle at all, almost like it is pulling you up the incline at quite a fast speed, which I found impressive. Rides are very smooth (unless you’re going off-road or over a path through the woods or something), and the breaks are very responsive. The light is also very bright, and the kickstand works just fine. The charger does get a bit hot (it’s almost like a laptop charger), but once the scooter is fully charged there must be some kind of safety feature because the charger turns itself off and isn’t hot after a full overnight charge, so you can feel safe letting it charge overnight.I have been zooming around playing Pokémon Go, and hatching eggs like a madman, with just a huge smile on my face. A great ride!

I bought this scooter almost exactly a year ago (July) to ride to baseball games at the park that’s about four miles from my house. It worked great for the first couple of months, then the battery began to fade. By the October playoffs, I was pushing the scooter the final few blocks home. Now it will barely make it four miles in one direction, and the speeds are down considerably. I top out at around 13 mph now vs 17 or 18 a year ago — big difference. The app also stopped working over the winter. I usually had around 200 lbs riding on this scooter (me and my kid, which I know is not recommended, but the point is that the weight is well within Niu’s stated parameters). I would not recommend this scooter unless you are planning on really really light usage. It is not reliable for regular usage. I had envisioned it lasting at least a couple of years, but the battery just isn’t strong enough and as far as I can tell, there’s no way to replace it. I am surprised that this seems to be a reputable company; they have a storefront in my neighborhood. Maybe their other products are okay, but this scooter is a ripoff for $400.

I have had this scooter for 7 months, and I feel that it can last at least another 2 years. The scooter has an average speed of 17mph on flat ground. On a hill of 15 degrees, it will be at around 6mph. You will start feeling a reduction in speed(1 to 2mph slower) at 3.5/5 battery.I recommend this scooter for an on-campus commute or a 1-2-mile distance.

I searched for months to find the right scooter for my daughter, who is going to college. I wanted a scooter that was well-made, under $600, had distance of at least 20 mi, good battery life, went up modest hills and had a min top speed of 15mph.I narrowed my selection to 4 brands, Gotrax, Hiboy, Segway and NIU. Right away, the Segway (Ninebot Max) achieved all the min specs that I was looking for, was well-made, but was too expensive. The Gotrax G4 and Ultra vs the Hiboy S2 pro was a close comparison, but the Hiboy seemed to have better specs. So it came down to the Hiboy S2 Pro vs the NIU kqi2 Pro. Both a good scooters, but in the end I chose the NIU, because from my research they are a larger manufacturer and have a wide variety of scooters, mopeds and other electric and gas powered vehicles. I found that Hiboy had many more complaints re: their quality and therefore it was NIU for me. Lastly, I considered price. Although the NIU’s MSRP is $600+,I was able to get it during Amazon deal days for $425, which to me is a steal.Lastly, the scooter arrived and was well packaged. It is well-made, sturdy, great looking and achieved all the things that I wanted it to have in an entry level adult scooter. My daughter loves it and is having a blast riding it around town and going across campus in no time. I would highly recommend this scooter for its build, safety (lights and reflectors all over the scooter), speed, tires, braking and sturdiness. Lastly, I reached out to customer service with a question about the charging port and they responded on 30 min! It has a good warranty and with customer service being that responsive, that is icing on the cake. Good luck, there are a lot of choices, so I hope my review will help you with your decision.

Have had this scooter for little over a month and a half and it has been great! Nothing has come loose. Stem is rock solid. Latching and folding mechanism is simple but work really well. Overall it is excellent scooter.Speed-wise I have gotten up to 16-17 mph so not super fast but it will get to there faster than walking (or running). The milage is ok. I haven’t come close to the 25 miles they advertise, but realistically that is only in ideal conditions (perfectly flat in eco mode). I’m getting more on the range of 10 miles per charge but I run in sport mode and live in San Francisco… Yeah hills are killer.The ride is good, but you will feel those rough spots coming through the scooter. There are no shocks but I wonder if that makes that much of difference. I feel rough spots while riding in a car or on a motorcycle so really with 10 inch wheels I don’t think shock absorbers would matter too much.I don’t commute with this, or any, scooter but I could imagine it would be pretty difficult unless you ride all the way. At 40+ pounds and not very compact, I could imagine climbing bus steps would be cumbersome. The folding mechanism is excellent so if you are strong enough.My only real gripe is with the regen braking. They appear to be either on or off. It isn’t very subtle. That it doesn’t appear to make too much difference are far as battery life. You’d think coasting down the hill would be getting better milage, but I haven’t seen much if any difference. I leave it on for the extra braking power.As far as braking… The drum brake work just fine. I do anticipate when I need to stop, so I’ve never had to stop short (fingers crossed) but when I do brake hard I haven’t had any problems. I don’t think you’d be thrown over the handle bar, but I make sure to lean back anyway.All told I would recommend this scooter looking for a low maintenance ride with either a short commute or for running short errands. Or getting you to the tennis courts.Remember always wear a helmet, and if you want the most protection, gloves, knee and elbow pads as well.Have fun and be safe.

So when we got this- we were nervous but the price was right and it had a decent video review or 2. We got it set up for my son as a present and he was so thrilled, but it wouldn’t go very fast at all. We thought it was something to do with the app, but turns out the throttle was loose and slightly broken. It was still under warranty and would have cost a lot of money to ship back to China for a small & inexpensive part. Luckily it was an easy enough fix and now that baby flys!!! I mean really zooms at 40- it’s not slow at all. It really is a great buy. We haven’t had an issue since- so with knowing that things can get damaged along the way of shipping (& that we probably voided a warranty by fixing it ourselves & that we weren’t going to use)- I would buy another one for myself or my husband and take the chance it just happened to be that one. My other son has a Segway scooter and let me tell you- I thought that one was fast- this one leaves it in the dust every time! It’s fun- not a toy!!! This is a machine- so don’t buy it for little kids- it should be for older teens and up and with proper padding! Have fun & be safe!Update: so… we live in the Midwest and it’s time for winter to end… we do not drive scooters in the winter time, so the scooter sat for a few months… bringing it out today after at least 3 months (short winter this year) and the thing won’t move over 8mph… you HAVE to have the app to get this to work correctly & even then I now need proof of purchase even now- throughly confused as to why all of this is a problem after a few months… Amazon troubleshooting basically come down to reset it… which has yet to work… I think with all the random troubleshooting issues we’ve experienced beyond this latest, I don’t know that Id but this scooter again…

EDIT: Had to adjust my review from 5 stars to 3. While my scooter was working, the original review was relevant. But 2 months since recovering it, it suddenly stopped working. Wouldn’t turn on at all. Customer service was good though and the 2 year warranty is now being put to the test. Have shipped it back to NIU to hope they can fix and return it to me ASAP. Was a challenge to find a box big and sturdy enough for the shipping. NIU did send a waybill though so at least they cover the cost of shipping. Just hope it arrives there in one piece. NOTE TO OTHERS: Keep your packaging in case you need to ship yours!Will update this review if/when I get my scooter back in working order.This was such a great purchase. We’re very happy with our scooters. They are durable and zip around, making getting to the metro and bus stops quick and easy. My husband is very tall and the handle bar height works well for him. The scooter does slow down significantly for him on the uphills, but it’s gets him to the top most times. My scooter doesn’t struggle with me at all (55kg). I particularly like the cruise control feature which make long stretches smooth and fun and the folding feature so we can pop them in the boot of an Uber if we need to take a car.It’s great that the tyres are solid and can’t run flat, but it does mean that your teeth and eyeballs jiggle around in your head if the road surface is bumpy. But other than that, best purchase we’ve made in a long time.

I bought one of these but had to send it back due to some kind of electrical problem. It would not remember the settings, even after reinstalling the app and doing the firmware update. It also kept engaging the regenerative brake when accelerating, so that not only slowed it down a bit but affected the battery life and made an irritating noise. It’s not as sturdy as the KQI 3, only gets about 12 miles on a full charge – and that’s without any significant hills. It lacks power and won’t even make it up little 15 degree, 10 foot hills.There’s no suspension, and the tires aren’t very sturdy. If the tires stop holding air, you cannot finish your ride. It has a pretty good acceleration and reaches 16 to 17 mph but any little bump or dip causes it to slow down and makes the battery work hard to return to speed. Regenerative braking has very little effect on battery life. If anything, it’s more of an annoyance that pulls the scooter down slow as soon as you let off the throttle.The braking is inferior to the KQI3. In fact, it’s pretty much inferior to the KQI3 in many ways… Yet the KQI3 is also overrated and overpriced in my estimation because it doesn’t have much power and battery life is not spectacular. To stop quicker, you have to squeeze the brake all the way down, but even then it’s a bit weak. The KQI3 brakes a lot more effectively.I don’t think it’s particularly better than other brands or offers anything better, but kind of an average scooter with a higher price tag. Before I bought it, I watched countless Youtube videos which pretty much venerated the brand and this model but I found it to be rather disappointing in performance and quality.
